The race starts and finishes at Geelhoutbos on the western side of the Baviaanskloof.

The route is approximately 40 km, and covers extremely harsh, rugged  and unforgiving terrain through area inhabited by dangerous game.

Runners are expected to be self sustaining. Minimal support will be provided en route.

Geelhoutbos is situated in a wilderness area, as such there are no facilities.


The run has a 'high point' of 1122m and a cumulative ascent of over 1400m.

There is an 7 hour cut-off to complete the course and to qualify as a finisher. There is also a mandatory cut-off at the top Check Point (approx 25km) of 4½ hours. Runners who arrive at the Check Point after the cut-off must abandon the race.

The race is not recommended for unfit runners or for those who are not prepared to cover rough terrain.
